Beautiful Non-Dug Confederate Manuscript "I" With Alabama Retailer Mark
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very beautiful non-excavated Civil War Confederate infantry coat button. This is the style that was run through the blockade to be sold to well-to-do Southern soldiers. The neat thing about this button is the backmark. On the back of the button it has the clear "HALFMANN & TAYLOR MONTGOMERY" backmark. This one has the marking that is clear and is a neat piece to show your relic collecting friends. Halfmann was a high end retailer in Montgomery that imported and sold many fine military items for Confederate soldiers. The original shank is intact and in fine shape. The face has a fantastic look to the large ornate manuscript "I" that denotes the infantry branch of Confederate service. This is the style listed as figure CS175 in Albert's button book and CSI212a2 in Tice's button book. This is an excellent button all the way around.
