Here is a great looking gun that was used as an illustration piece in the wonderful book on Confederate & Southern Agent Marked Shotguns by Russ Pritchard, Jr. & John Ashworth, Jr. The book covers the shotguns that were often pressed into military service by Southern soldiers, especially the cavalry. On pages 144 and 145, they have multiple illustrations of this exact gun. It is one of the guns that was sold by the prominent New Orleans, Louisiana retailer, T. Bailey. This gun was made in England and brought to New Orleans for commercial sale. The bottom of the full-length 31 inch barrels have the Birmingham proof markings. Each barrel fires a blast of 10 Gauge or as the English say, 10 Bore. Along the rib of the barrel top it has the desirable marking "T. BAILEY NEW ORLEANS". At the breech of the barrels it has the silver bands and the platinum blowouts on the sides. It is designed with the 2 front action style lockplates and they each have the engraving that includes the pointing dog designs. They each have the marking "T. BAILEY" still mostly visible. The stock is made of a single piece of walnut wood. At the wrist it has a crack that has been very nicely repaired. This is a cool looking classic style double barrel shotgun with the desirable New Orleans retailer marking of T. Bailey.
