Matching Numbers "Wells Fargo" Pattern .31 Colt Revolver Made in 1858

This is a cool little gun. It is the version of the model 1849 Colt .31 caliber revolver. This is the style known to collectors as the "Wells Fargo" pattern Colt. The nickname has always stuck with these revolvers even though there is no known association with the Wells Fargo company. This pattern of gun however can be seen from a mile away because of the barrel section that is made without the loading lever or clip. They just have a smooth styling that sets them off from the rest of the 1849 Colts. This one has all matching serial numbers of 118,825. All of the numbers match and it has an unmarked barrel wedge that appears to be original to the gun. Thanks to Mr. Colt's books we know that this gun would have been made in 1856. All of the metal parts have an ancient attic tone all over. The top of the full-length 3-inch barrel has the 2-line maker's mark of the Colt Company and the New York City marking. The sales office for colt was in New York City but the true production location was Hartford, Connecticut. The cylinder has a beautiful amount of the stagecoach hold-up scene still visible as well as the "COLT'S PATENT" stamping and correct matching serial number. The side of the frame has the clear "COLTS PATENT" stamping nicely visible. On the handle it has the original 1-piece walnut wood grip with a nice amount of the original varnish intact. The backstrap and triggerguard still retain some of the original silver wash. The action works well on all positions. This is a fine looking scarce gun as there were only 4,000 of these "Wells Fargo" revolvers ever made and they mixed them in with the serial numbers of the regular 1849 pocket models. This is a wonderful Colt gun for your collection.
