Authentic Confederate Belt Buckles & Plates From The Civil War
Buckles
Confederate Civil War "Rope Border" C.S. Belt Buckle From Shelbyville, tennessee
Click on an image to enlarge
This is the classic Confederate "CS" oval pastern belt buckle known to collectors as the "Rope Border" design. They get their nickname because of the beaded inner ring around the perimeter of the buckle. This is the pattern of buckle illustrated as figure #140 in the new edition of the Mullinax book on Confederate Belt buckles. It has a vividly clear "CS" on the face of the stamped brass buckle. When this buckle was recovered it had a couple of hairline cracks that have been beautifully restored for display purposes. On the reverse of the plate. It has two and a half of the belt hooks. This pattern of hook is referred to as "scrap brass" hooks because they were constructed using the left over pieces of brass from the stamping of the faces of the buckles. The certificate of authenticity from Larry Hicklen that accompanied this buckle is that it was recovered in one of the amps occupied by troops under the command of Confederate General Leonidas Polk. They were camped in Shelbyville, Tennessee before and after the Battle of Stones River in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. With this one you get a fine displaying buckle for a fraction of that price.
