Philadelphia Printed 1863 Dated Cavalry Tactics Manual by Gilham
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is an original Civil War tactics manual. This cavalry tactics book was printed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Charles DeSilver Company in 1863 and is so marked on the title page. It has the beautiful battle scene on the title page. On the inside cover it has a nice ink inscription that reads "Alfred Pleasanton / United States Cavalry". This is the name of the famous General but it IS NOT his signature. As for the book itself it contains 734 pages and as you can see it has many diagrams in the back of the book. It appears that most if not all of the pages are still present. The cover of the book has the green color with the gold wash on the front. It measures 5-1/2 inches by 8 inches in overall size. This is a nice original Civil War tactics manual from 1863.
