Superb Scarce U.S. Model 1913 "Patton" Cavalry Saber in Scabbard

This is a cool looking sword! This is the scarce U.S. model 1913 cavalry saber. It was designed by George S. Patton while he was "Master of the Sword" at the Mounted Service School at Fort Riley, Kansas. He designed them to be used in their "modern" fighting techniques however by the time the First World War came along the machine gun made the cavalry's man to man horseback fighting almost obsolete. This one is in nice used condition all the way around and is complete. The blade is full-length at 35 inches and has the double edge to the straight blade. At the base of the blade it has the 1918 production date as well as the mark of the maker "L.F. & C." with the Ordnance Bomb. The L.F. & C. sis the maker's mark of Landers, Frary, & Clark. On the other side of the blade it has the large "US" stamp. The grip of the sword is massive and definitely constructed for battle. The thick sheet steel hand guard forms a large basket to protect the cavalryman. The grip of the sword is made of the black plastic like hard rubber. This sword is accompanied by the original scabbard. The scabbard has the original throat and drag intact. The body of these Patton sabers are made of oil treated hickory wood with a rawhide covering. Then they add a waterproof treated piece of canvas. These were finely crafted and thought out pieces of militaria. This one displays well as you can see. This is a massive and fierce sword!
