COOL! Original .31 Caliber Robbins and Lawrence Pepperbox
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very cool little gun that was made in Windsor, Vermont. This is the .31 caliber pepperbox style pistol made by the firm of Robbins and Lawrence. They were located in Windsor, Vermont and manufactured approximately 7000 of these guns from 1851 until 1854. These guns were designed differently from most of their pepperbox counterpart of the day. The barrels stay still while the striker rotated to strike the nipples for each cylinder. The barrel unit is changed on the bottom which allows the barrel cluster to tilt down for capping. The mechanics of this gun still has spring but it no longer rotates. I opened it up and it is missing some parts. The side of the gun frame has the ornate engraved scroll work. The metal parts have a nice brown patina all over. The barrel has matching scroll work as well as the "ROBBINS & LAWRENCE CO" stamping and the 1849 patent date. The grips of the gun have the 2 original Walnut wood grips intact. They have a beautiful look with a nice amount of the original factory varnish intact. On the bottom of the grip it has the serial number of 1558. This is a nice looking example of one of the neatest designs of Pepperbox revolvers.
