Battle of Cold Harbor Excavated .56 Caliber Spencer Carbine Cartridge

This is an original metallic cartridge for the Civil War Spencer Repeating Cavalry Carbine or rifle. The cartridge is the correct .56 caliber which would have fit the model 1860 Spencer repeating rifle or carbine. It is a great excavated artifact from the famous Spencer repeater. This piece was recovered in the area of the the Battle of Cold Harbor was fought near Mechanicsville, Virginia, outside of Richmond. It happened from May 31 to June 12, 1864, with the most significant fighting occurring on June 3. This ISN'T one of the ones that have been put back together for display. It is as it was recovered and is in nice shape and looks very nice as you can see with the chips out of the side.
