Here is a fantastic uniform from before Civil War. This is the scarce coat that would have been worn by a Civil War era Naval Surgeon. This double breasted frock coat has the 2 rows of 8 buttons going down the front. The buttons are the beautiful navy buttons with the Union eagle on the face. The eagle is perched on the anchor. On the reverse of the buttons they have the desirable "HORSTMANN SONS & DRUCKER" maker marking. This marking lets us know that they were made between 1845 and 1850 because they changed the name to Horstmann Brothers & Allien. It has the three cuff buttons adorning each of the sleeves. Also on the sleeves it has the double bullion bands that denote that the officer had over 12 years of service. One of the bands is missing on the one sleeve but the other is complete with some glue holding one band in place. On the shoulders, there are both of the officer's shoulder straps. They have the design that lets us know that the officer was a Senior Surgeon. These straps are extremely rare on their own but I have never been able to offer them on the original coat before. When you open the coat up, you can see some traces of the lining in the chest and back. It has the entire sleeve lining remaining and they are in fine shape. This is a very scarce Naval Surgeon's coat so don't miss your chance.
