Very Nice Looking 1847 Dated Single Shot Military Pistol by H. Aston
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very nice original single shot Civil War era military model 1842 pistol. This one was made by the firm of H. Aston of ' Middletown, Connecticut and is so marked on the side of the lockplate. It also has the clear 1847 date of manufacture. The mechanics of the lockplate catches tightly on both positions. The barrel is full length with a gray tone all over. This one would have fired a .54 caliber round ball from the 8-1/2 inch barrel. It has the original ramrod under the barrel and also has the cool swivel style ramrod guide. This was designed to keep the ramrod from being lost. These have always been one of my favorite patterns of pistol because of how they stand out because of the brass on the barrel band, triggerguard and backstrap. The gun has an attractive mellow look to the brass. This one has a pretty walnut stock that is of furniture grade wood. There is a hairline crack in the middle of the wood on the grip as you see in the images. This is a very pleasing original single shot military model Aston pistol.
