Coat Size Civil War Maine State Seal Button Found at Harrison's Landing
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful original coat size state of Maine 3 piece staff officer uniform button. This is the classic style that you see excavated in campsites occupied by the soldiers from Maine. The face has the state seal of Maine with a very slight push to the face. As you can see it still retains a fine amount of the original gold gilding from the factory. The original back and shank are present with the correct Civil War backmark of "EXTRA QUALITY ". This particular version of Extra Quality backmark is different from those that are listed in the book. This is a nice original excavated coat size of the Maine state seal. This is the version listed as ME1 in Albert's Button book and is a variant of ME200 in Tice's button book. The verbal history that accompanied this button is that it was recovered decades ago at Harrison's Landing Virginia. This is a great button for your collection.
