Civil War Capbox with Partial Desirable Sickles of St. Louis Maker Mark
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is one that you don't see offered every day. It is an original St. Louis produced Civil War percussion cap box. These are the leather pouches that at one time would have held the percussion caps for a Civil War soldier's rifle, carbine or pistol. As you can see this one displays well even though it has some flaking to the outer flap. This one was made by the firm of Sickles & Company of St. Louis and it has the very faint remnants of their oval maker's mark on the inner flap. The box itself is in very nice shape. Also on the inside it has had the lamb's wool removed to make the percussion caps easier to get out. The back of the box has both of the original belt loops solidly intact. The brass finial is present as well as the complete closure tab. This is a very nice piece with a scarce Civil War maker mark.
