This is a fine looking original Confederate belt buckle. It is the version listed as Plate #009 in the revised edition of Confederate belt Buckles & Plates by Steve Mullinax. This pattern is known to collectors as the "Virginia" pattern of two piece sword belt buckle. Most of this pattern are believed to have been manufactured in the Richmond, Virginia area. The bold C.S. letters on the buckle tongue can be seen from across the room. This one is in fine excavated condition and has no restoration of any kind. The verbal history that accompanied this buckle is that it was recovered in the 1980's in Dinwiddie, Virginia by Wallace Markert. He stated it was found in one of the campsites occupied by Confederate General Thomas Rosser. The Battle of Dinwiddie Court House was fought on March 31, 1865, during the American Civil War at the end of the Richmond-Petersburg Campaign and in the beginning stage of the Appomattox Campaign. This one is beautiful from all angles.
