Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very rare piece that is in cool looking relic condition. It is the Confederate made saber bayonet from the famous Kenansville Arsenal in Kenansville, North Carolina. This one is has been cleaned all over and you can see the salt and pepper finish to the blade from the years of being exposed to the elements. It has the full-length 19 inch blade that has the single fuller on each side. The handle is made of cast brass with a golden tone to the brass from being cleaned. It is missing the original attachment lock spring and it appears to have been gone for eons. It measures 62.7 mm in overall length with the inside diameter of the muzzle ring measuring 21.3 mm. These saber bayonets were designed to be used as a regular bayonet on the end of the gun or they could be removed and used as a short sword hence the name saber bayonet. This one is in nice relic shape as you can see.
