Fine Screw Style Bullet Worm for a Model 1855 Rifle or Rifle Musket
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an original screw style gun worm for a Civil War era Model 1855 rifle & rifle musket. This is the early style with the rounded shoulders. These were used for the cleaning out of the musket bore. They held a wad of tow (the fiber of flax, hemp or jute). This tow has then used for regular maintenance of bore cleaning. They could also be used for the extracting a bullet if there was a problem with firing or any other reason they needed to pull the bullet out. It is like the one illustrated on page 126 of the gun tool book. This one is in excellent non-excavated condition and you get the exact one that you see pictured.
