EXPLODED! Excavated Southern Conversion of a .69 Caliber Musket Barrel Breech
Click on an image to enlarge
This is one neat excavated item. It is the excavated breech portion of a musket barrel. This is the tang portion as well as 4-1/2 inches of the barrel itself. You can see where the barrel exploded and tore apart the metal. The forward end has been lost to the ages but we have the breech. Another neat thing about this piece is that it has one of the very large size bolsters. This is likely one of the Virginia armory conversions. It is a wonderful excavated Southern artifact.
