Very Rare Excavated Civil War Hale Rocket Type I Nose Section
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a piece that you are likely to have never had the opportunity to buy before. It is an original nose section from a Civil War rocket. Yes that's right they had rockets during the Civil War. This is the pattern that is known to collectors as the Type I Hale Patent rocket. This design is fully illustrated on page #504 of the 1993 edition of the Dickey & George artillery book. These fired from a 2.25 inch bore diameter rocket launcher and this nose section stands 3 inches tall. At the base of the nose section you can see the pins where the body of the rocket would have attached before it was blown off in flight. These are much rarer than the hand grenades that can bring much more these days. The verbal history that accompanied this one is that it was recovered years ago in the in Mobile, Alabama. It has been beautifully cleaned and coated for display and preservation. In all of our years in collecting and dealing this is one of less than five of these we have been able to offer. Don't miss your chance.
