RARE BACKMARK! Non-Excavated Coat Size Ordnance Corps Button OC4
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a beautiful non-excavated coat size version of the ordnance corps coat button. It has the classic crossed cannon design on the face with the ordnance bomb above the crossed cannon. In the center it has a buckled garter that proudly reads "ORDNANCE CORPS". The face of this one has a fine amount of the original gold gilding down in the recesses. The original back and shank are present and are in fine shape. It has the correct Civil War ".W.R. Williams . / 12 John st New York" retailer's mark on the reverse. This is a very tough backmark to find on this pattern or any pattern of button. It is the first one that I have ever been able to offer. The backmark book states that William R. Williams was in business from 1841 to 1846 and was said to have been in business at West Point. This is the pattern listed in Albert's button book as OC4 and in Tice's button book is as ORD209a7. This is a very nice non dug button that will compliment any Civil War or artillery collection.
