This is a tough to find bayonet! It is a relic condition example of a variant of the saber style bayonet illustrated as figure #3 on page 208 of Janzen's bayonet book. He lists them as the model 1862 Merrill Navy Rifle saber bayonet. The Ordnance Department purchased 770 Merrill breech-loading rifles with saber bayonets between 1862 and 1865. This rare bayonet is illustrated and described on page 123 of "THE AMERICAN BAYONET 1776-1964" by A.N. Harden. The description notes that this bayonet also fits the Model 1841 Mississippi Rifles modified to accept a saber bayonet. The blade is full-length at 19-1/4th inches with the bayonet measuring 24 inches in overall length. As you see, the blade has the ancient pitting from the years int he barn or smokehouse. The brass handle is present with a great worn look and on the top of the handle it has the serial number of "8,514" The locking spring is still present on the handle as well but it is frozen in place. This is a good looking relic condition example of a scarce Civil War bayonet.
