Original 1863 Dated Ames Mfg. Civil War Cavalry Saber in Scabbard
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a great looking original Civil War dated cavalry saber. It has an ancient look all over. This is the classic model 1860 that was carried by the Union cavalryman during the Civil War and is the style most people associate with the war between the states. The sword has a full-length blade with a dark gray tone all over. It has the majority of the production date of 1863 stamped at the base. You can also see the "US" mark marking and the inspector initials of "A.D.K.". These are the initials of the man who inspected swords for the U.S. Government, A.D. King. The back of the blade has the straight line style maker's mark of the Ames Manufacturing Company of Chicopee, Massachusetts. Ames was the foremost maker of Civil War swords and sabers for the Union government. The guard and pommel cap have a great golden color and look to the brass. On the top of the pommel cap it has the matching and correct "A.D.K." inspector initials. The leather and double twist brass wire have been expertly restored on the handle and display well as you can see from the pictures. The sword is accompanied by the original scabbard. The scabbard is complete with both mounts and rings as well as the throat and drag being present. This is a nice looking authentic 1863 dated Ames cavalry saber.
