Rev War Era Brass Handled Sword with Very Interesting Detail Work
Click on an image to enlarge
This sword has a very interesting amount and style of detail work. This sword is crafted with a 29 1/4-inch bright tapered triangular blade, and it measures 35 1/2-inches in overall size. The all brass hilt is elaborately decorated on all sides with mythical and classical themes. As for the grip itself, it is made entirely of twisted brass wire for the wrap. The obverse of the pommel depicts an angel writing at a table, symbolic of victory. The reverse of the pommel depicts an angel blowing a trumpet white straddling the double-headed eagle of Austria. On the bow of the handguard, it has the Goddess like designs cast into the brass on each side. The crossguard of the sword is crafted with an oval brass panel with casting of the images on each side. As you can see, the swordmaker was very detail oriented with his craftsmanship. This is a wonderful sword from the time of the American Revolution or even a little earlier.
