Uniform Buttons of the U.S. Artillery & Navy Branches in Non-Excavated Condition

Artillery
Coat Tail Version! 1-Piece Silvered 1830's Eagle "A" Artillery Officer's Button
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful 1-piece coat size Artillery officer's eagle "A" button. On the front of the button it has the eagle with the "A" in the center of the eagle's shield which denotes the artillery branch of service. The face has fine detail and a clear "A" in the eagle's shield and the silver makes it stand out from the normal 1-piece artillery buttons. It has an excellent original shank intact. What makes this one interesting, is that this is one of the ones that were used on the back side of the uniform on the coat tail. Since these buttons were never designed to be removed they used a metal back into hold them in place with the leather through the shank. With the piece of metal, you can't see the backmark on the button but going by the construction, it is from the 1830's. This is an excellent button all the way around.
