Fine Looking 1765 Pattern Danish/Norwegian Socket Bayonet
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a great looking socket bayonet from the late 1700's to the early part of the 1800's. This pattern of bayonet is often misidentified as a Brown Bess musket bayonet. The most obvious difference between this and a British Brown Bess bayonet is the bayonet is designed for a bottom stud, whereas the Brown Bess fitted over the foresight. This is a variation of the 1765 pattern socket bayonet for Danish/Norwegian (Norway belonged to Denmark at this point, so they used the same weapons for the most part). It has the 17-3/4ths overall length. It has the full-length 13 inch blade with the socket that measures 3-1/2 inches. The inside diameter of the blade side of the socket is .865 inches and the back of the socket is .91 inches. The side of the socket is engraved "MZO" and the base of the blade is stamped "802". The bayonet is in very fine shape all over.
