Civil War & Earlier Soldier's Belt Buckles in Excavated & Non-E
Buckles
Fine Excavated Carbine Sling Buckle with Tip Remaining From Culpeper Virginia
Click on an image to enlarge

This is an original Civil War cavalry carbine sling buckle. These carbine slings were used by the cavalrymen to hang onto the carbines while they were on horseback. The leather sling used this buckle to adjust the length of the carbine sling to the size need by the cavalryman. The batwing looking tip went on the end of the sling to protect the end of the leather sling. This tip still has one of the rivets remaining. This is a nice excavated one with a pretty patina all over. It still has both of the original two adjustment teeth present on the buckle portion. The verbal history that accompanied the pieces is that this buckle was found in Culpeper, Virginia. This is a nice dug piece that will enhance any Civil War artifact collection.
