Non-Excavated "Snake" Belt Buckle From After the Civil War
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an attractive non-excavated post Civil War era Confederate "Snake" style belt buckle. During the Civil War, these style belt buckles were imported from England through the Union naval blockade and often worn by Confederate officers. after the Civil War they were still used throughout many parts of the world. The postwar versions such as this, have smaller more compact belt loops. The snake in the center is basically the same size as the Civil War version. They have the distinctive double headed snake in the center that joins the 2 belt loops. These Civil War excavated versions have the round belt loops that have the attachment rings soldered directly onto the snake side of the belt loops. This one's keeper portion is missing as you can see and it is priced accordingly. This is a great looking non-excavated snake pattern belt buckle that is only a fraction of the price of a Civil War production buckle.
