Here is an original land grant given for land from a sale in Clinton, Missouri. This was granting 80 acres and was granting William Clarkson who had served in the "Cherokee War" as a Private in Captain Williams Company of Tennessee Volunteers. When I looked up the grant details on the Bureau of Land Management website they show the land as being near Sedalia, Missouri. Here is a link to the image LAND GRANT. The document measures 15-1/2 inches by 9-3/4ths inches in size. It is beautiful and has the pre-printed paper with the blanks filled in using fine brown ink. In the lower left hand corner, it has the applied great seal. In the lower right hand corner, it has the secretarial signed signature of President Franklin Pierce. One thing that is neat about this is that it is secretarially signed by his Assistant Secretary. Some of these land grants were signed by the President but most were signed for him by a secretary like this one. The document is accompanied by a modern xerox image of President Pierce. This is a great document from the Pierce administration.
