Click on an image to enlarge
This is a fine version of South Carolina button. It is an attractive excavated state seal uniform vest size button for the state of South Carolina. It has the palmetto tree on the face of the button with the motto around the side. The motto reads "Animis Opibusque Parati" which translates as "Prepared in mind and Resources." As you can see in the image the button has a pleasing look. The original back and shank are present on the reverse. It has back with the retailer mark of the Waterbury, Connecticut firm of Scovill still visible. It is one of the tougher version of South Carolina buttons to find. This is the button that is listed as figure SC262am5 in Tice's button book and SC15B in Albert's button book. This one is in nice excavated shape and will be a fine addition to your collection.
