Scarce Large Size "Detached Charger" Hawksley Made Powder Flask
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is one that you don't see very often. This is a great looking Civil War era powder flask that was made by the firm of G. & J.W. Hawksley of Sheffield, England. It is so marked on the top by the spring and the spring is still functional. The top is also what is interesting about this flask. It is what is known as a "Detached Charger". When it is filled, the spout itself pivots to the side to allow for loading. It is a lot of extra work that was not needed. As you can imagine, these spouts would break off easily. This one is in fine shape and is fully functional. The body of the flask is made of brass that has a fine brown leather cover. The sides are unadorned and is has the single ring at the bottom. It measures 8-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches in overall size. The last image shows the size of this flask compared to a standard flask. Don't miss this one.
