This is an authentic CDV image of Abraham Lincoln and his Son, Tad. It is a nice clear CDV of the the young Tad standing beside of the President. These images of Tad Lincoln and Abraham were popular after Lincoln's assassination. The citizens wanted to see the family member that Lincoln left behind. Thomas "Tad" Lincoln (April 4, 1853 – July 15, 1871) was the fourth and youngest son of the 16th President of the United States Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd Lincoln. These CDV images were an important part of history from the Civil War era. It was the first practical way to bring images of a famous personality home to the regular people. The people wanted to be able to put a face with the names they read about in the newspapers. You could order through newspaper ads or at local photography studios, several images of famous personalities for a reasonable amount. The CDV images were made by applying an engraving image onto the thick paper with the overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2.5 inches by 4 inches in size. On the back of the card, it has the Chicago printer marking of the firm of Golden & Sammons. It is a fine original CDV that will make a solid addition to any Civil War collection.
