Here is a great looking piece! This is a silk screened 48-star Union flag. The United States flag had 48 stars from 1912 to 1959, after the admission of New Mexico and Arizona to the union. It had 49 stars in 1959, when Alaska was added. Hawaii joined in 1960, giving us the 50-star flag we have today. What is special about this flag is the black and gold inscription that is applied to the red stripes. It proudly reads " In Memoriam / E.W. Kinsley Post No. 115 G.A.R. / Boston, Mass." This flag displays beautifully as you can see with the silk fraying some in places. It measures approximately 31 inches by 45-1/2 inches in overall size. It is printed on one side since it was designed to be used as a banner and not to be flown. The flag will be shipped rolled between two sheets to keep it from being damaged in shipment. This is a great looking display piece from the Boston G.A.R. Camp.
