Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful Confederate coat button for the infantry branch of service. This is the classic solid cast version that was often worn by the Confederate foot soldier. The front of the button has the block style "I" that can be seen from across the room. This pattern of Confederate button is listed in Albert's button books as CS184 and in Tice's button book it is figure CSI275. It has a beautiful greenish patina all over. This button was found years ago in New Hope, Georgia area. That means that the button would have been worn by one of the Confederates trying to stop the Yankee army on the way to Atlanta. This is a great looking original Confederate cast "I" button.
