Here is a wonderful piece of Confederate South Carolina history! This is an original paper enlisting Theodore Gailliard Barker into the service of Hampton's Legion. At the top of the pre-printed paper, it has the South Carolina state seal in an oval. Across the top it has "CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA" and "State of South Carolina". Issued in Charleston the document is dated May 15th 1862 and appoints Barker as a 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant in Hampton's Legion. The center section is where Barker swore an oath to the Confederacy. Across the bottom it is signed for Colonel (Soon to be General) Wade Hampton. The brown ink used to fill in the pre-printed paper displays well and is very legible. It is even accompanied by the original envelope from the Head-quarters of the Conscript Department in Columbia, South Carolina. You get the appointment and the envelope for $795.00.
