Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a neat document from 1863. This is a hand written order from the command of Admiral Dahlgren. It was issued from his flagship, the Philadelphia off of Morris Island, South Carolina and is dated August 31st 1863. It is finely written in brown ink on the blue reed paper. Dahlgren is sending a ship around to the iron clad "Monitors" to allow the men to "...have the opportunity for recruiting." SO he wanted them to reenlist. The paper measures 8-3/4ths inches by 7-3/4ths inches in overall size. A very neat Civil War Navy document.
