Here is a piece that was given to one of the greatest players in baseball history! This is an original badge that was given to Joe DiMaggio of the New York Yankees. This piece came from the DiMaggio family and was part of the 2006 auction by Hunt Auctions as lot 73. Lot 73 contained four police badges that were given to the Yankees star over the years. This is the first one described in the lot description. A modern xerox copy of the Letter of Provenance from Hunt Auctions and the DiMaggio family will accompany the badge. The badge itself is a New York City Detective badge with gilding and blue enamel showing the great seal of the City of New York. It measures 1-3/4ths inches by 1-5/8ths inches in overall size and still retains the original attachment pin on the reverse. The badge is also accompanied by a modern xerox image of DiMaggio in uniform and another image of DiMaggio with Marilyn Monroe. Joseph Paul DiMaggio (November 25, 1914 – March 8, 1999), and was nicknamed "Joltin' Joe", "the Yankee Clipper" and "Joe D." He is also known for being married to actress, Marilyn Monroe. During his career, he played for the New York Yankees (1936–1942, 1946–1951) and was a coach for the Oakland Athletics (1968–1969). During that career, he was a 13 time All-Star (1936–1942, 1946–1951), 9 time World Series champion (1936–1939, 1941, 1947, 1949–1951), a 3 time AL MVP (1939, 1941, 1947) and 2 time AL batting champion (1939, 1940). He was also the 2 time AL home run leader (1937, 1948), 2 time AL RBI leader (1941, 1948). He holds the MLB record for a 56-game hitting streak. The New York Yankees retired his No. 5 jersey number and he is honored as a Monument Park honoree and was on the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. This is a cool memento owned by DiMaggio from the city of New York.
