Kidney Shaped Civil War Era "Medical" Canteen with Copper Spout

Here is a neat piece to add to your Civil War era Medical or campsite display. This piece is known as a "medical" canteen and they could have been used by the medical department. These are listed as Civil War but I think most of not all of them are made after the Civil War and are priced accordingly. They were also used as a container for hot water as a forerunner of the hot water bottle. They are kidney shaped and made of a lead soldered tin body. On the top side it has the formed applied tin loops for the strap that would have held it in place. On the side of this one is the brass cap that still unscrews. It measures 12 inches by 7-1/4th inches in overall size. It is in excellent used but not abused shape. This is a great piece of history!
