1860 Patent Civil War .32 Pond For Smith & Wesson With Matching Numbers

This is a nice looking original Civil War .32 caliber rimfire revolver by Lucius Pond. The top of the full-length 4 inch barrel has the remnants of the maker mark of "L.W. POND WORCESTER MASS PAT'D JULY 10 1860." Pond was sued by Smith & Wesson for patent infringement and lost so he had to mark the last of his production with a Smith mark. The other side you can still see traces of the stamping that reads "MANUF'D FOR SMITH & WESSON PAT'D APRIL 5, 1855." This lets us know that this is one of the later production Pond revolvers. It has the original full-length barrel with the blade style brass front sight intact. This one fired six shots from the cylinder. The gun works well on all positions. It has matching serial numbers of 5,869. These have a neat way of loading. When you push the button on the left hand side of the frame, the whole barrel and cylinder tilt up for easy loading. On the handle of the gun it has the original 2-piece walnut grips intact with a very attractive dark look. On the bottom of the grip it no longer has the removable screwdriver that is almost always missing. This is a nice original Pond revolver from the Civil War made for Smith & Wesson.
