Click on an image to enlarge
This is an authentic signature of Confederate General Pierre G.T. Beauregard (1818-1893). What makes this one extra special is that he signed the piece while he was president of the New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern Railroad. He was president of the line from 1866 until 1870. It is a nice clear signature on the pocket size card paper and it also has the date he signed it on the reverse with the date of 1870. This card was a railroad pass allowing the owner, a Esquire for another rail line. Beauregard had one of the most flamboyant signatures of any Confederate general and this paper is a perfect example of that style. He graduated second in his class at West Point. Beauregard was in command at Charleston, South Carolina and organized the destruction of Fort Sumter. He was also at the Battle of Shiloh and took command of the army after Albert Sidney Johnston died. The paper measures approximately 3-5/8th inches by 2-1/4ths inches in overall size. It is a fine original signature that will make a solid addition to any Confederate Civil War collection. An modern made Xerox image of Beauregard will accompany the autograph for display purposes.
