This is an original saber bayonet for the model 1863 Remington rifle. Better known as the "Zouave" rifle these guns and bayonets closely resembled the Mississippi rifle. This bayonet has a fine full-length blade with a beautiful brass handle and the original spring is intact and functional. These were called saber bayonet since they had the long blade and could be used as a sword or a bayonet either way. As you see, the blade on this one is in fine condition with a beautiful blade. The bayonet is accompanied by the original leather and brass scabbard. The scabbard has a nice look with the stitching along the back being nice and solid. This is a very attractive and complete Civil War Remington model 1863 rifle bayonet & scabbard.
