This is a beautiful original and popular Colt revolver known to collectors as the "Root" model. This one is .28 caliber and has the classic model 1855 sidehammer design. The action works well on all positions. The original grip is present has a fine dark look to the walnut with a very pretty grain. The grips still have a nice amount of the original factory varnish and they are the high quality walnut. The front of the grip has had a very nice wood repair as you see in the images. The serial numbers are all matching at 4,056 which would have been made in 1855 which was the 3rd year of production for this pattern of revolver. You can see that the gun has beautiful original factory bluing on the parts. It is definitely a step up from most of the ones that you encounter. Across the top of the 3.5 inch barrel is the clear Colt maker's mark as well as the Hartford, Connecticut location of the Colt factory. At the end of the barrel it has the bead style front sight intact. On the sides of the cylinder you can still see some of the original Indian and cabin cylinder scene. The case has a very pleasing look with the red lining that has faded over the years to a brownish red tone. Inside the dividers, it has the Eley percussion cap tin. It also has the very lightly marked Colt Patent marked brass bullet mold. There is also a more modern cleaning brush rod. You get the gun as well as the casing and the implements. It displays superbly as you can see.
