Misc. Excavated
Scarce Dug Confederate Staff Officer by H.T.&B. With Traces of Gold CS36
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an attractive button for any collection! This is a scarce original excavated coat size version of the Confederate Staff Officer's coat button. On the face it has the clear droop wing style eagle that denotes serving as a Confederate staff officer. Around the border it has the stars and the lined background field. As you can see this button has the traces of the gold gilding on the face. This button has the original back intact with the shank being lost to the ages. It has the correct Civil War backmark of "H.T.&B MANCHESTER" which is the mark of the firm owned by Hammond, Turner & Bates of Manchester, England. This is the style listed as CS36 in Albert's button book and CS210a1 in Tice's button book. This fine button would have been imported through the blockade to be sold by the high quality retailers. It would have adorned the front of a Confederate staff officer's coat that would have been proudly worn by that Confederate soldier. This is an attractive excavated Confederate staff officer's coat button by H.T. & B!
