41st Ohio Infantry Sutler's Token Found in a Kentucky Campsite
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a neat original Civil War sutler token. This was part of the cache found by a friend of mine, Kenney Copelin, in the camp of the 41st Ohio Infantry at Bardstown, Kentucky. There were a couple of the tokens pictured in Charles Harris's book, Relics of the Western Campaigns. This one is for the 25-cent denomination and has that amount in the center of the front. The face also has "41 REG O.V.M." with the sutler's mark of "SUTLER'S CHECK" at the top that is still partially legible. This is a neat excavated piece for your collection.
