This is an original Confederate belt buckle. It is the version listed as Plate #004 in the revised edition of Confederate belt Buckles & Plates by Steve Mullinax. This pattern is known to collectors as the "Virginia" pattern of two piece sword belt buckle. Most of this pattern was manufactured in the Richmond, Virginia area. The bold C.S. letters on the buckle tongue can be seen from across the room. This one is in beautiful non-excavated condition and has no restoration of any kind. The belt buckle is accompanied by the original leather belt. The leather on the wreath side has the classic Richmond style "Bullet" stitching. The belt is brittle and has been repaired in several placed and placed on a form to help protect it. This is a wonderful buckle and you get the original belt as a bonus.
