Civil War Regulation "Roosterneck" Cavalry Spur Found In Virginia
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a nice original excavated Civil War regulation pattern cavalry spur. This is the classic style that was worn by the Civil War cavalrymen. It is made of cast brass and is the pattern with the unadorned base of the rowel neck. You often hear of this pattern of spur being referred to by collectors as the "rooster neck" spur. This one had the neck broken off which is why the soldier would have discarded it. It has a nice looking untouched patina all over with a very pleasing look. The verbal history that accompanied this piece is that it was recovered years ago on private property in Virginia. It is in nice excavated condition and displays quite well for the price.
