This is an original .36 caliber Colt patent revolver. It is the classic model 1851 Colt revolver referred to by collectors as the "Navy" model even though the majority of their service was seen on land. This one has the clear Colt maker's mark on the top of the barrel along with the correct New York City location. These guns were really made in Hartford, Connecticut with the sales office being located in New York. The gun has the visible serial numbers of 122,256 except for the barrel wedge which has no number. Thanks to Mr. Colt's good bookkeeping we know that this gun would have been made in the first part of 1862. The side of the frame has the "COLTS PATENT" mark to go along with the one on the side of the cylinder. The cylinder still retains the matching serial number. It also retains some traces of the original cylinder scene that depicts the 1851 battle between the Texas Navy and the Mexican Navy. The action functions but the timing is off and is a little clunk. It is priced accordingly. It has has a couple of the screws replaced with modern made replacements of the correct style. On the handle of the gun it has the original 1-piece walnut grips intact with a fine well worn look all over to the wood. The brass on the triggerguard and backstrap still retain a beautiful well worn golden tone to the brass under the patina. This weapon is a good honest .36 caliber Colt that displays quite well.
