This one is a beauty! This buckle is the pattern illustrated as plate #152 in the O'Donnell buckle book. They date these buckles as being made between 1818 and 1835. This is one of the most beautifully design buckles of all time. It has the Union eagle on the front of the plate with the shield in front of here. Above her head it has the ribbon with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" inside the banner and the stars above that. On each side it has the flags draped and the cannon barrels and stacks of cannon balls. The buckle is made of brass and has a wonderful golden patina all over. On the reverse of the buckle it has the original tongue hook and belt bar. The buckle comes on a beautiful red Moroccan leather belt. The belt has the high quality tool work along the upper and lower edges of the belt and the details in the middle of the belt as you go around. It even has one of the leather hangers remaining with the brass and tin buckle on the end. This is a fantastic piece that is visually stunning.
