This is a very nice dug Shaler pattern 3-piece bullet. These are one of the most distinctive designed bullets of the Civil War. They are made up of three pieces and were supposed to split apart in flight giving three chances to hit the target. The top two are fused together after the years in the ground. This is the version of Shaler that is listed as figure #519 in the McKee & Mason Bullet book. It is the version with the tougher to find rounded top section. The verbal history that accompanied this bullet is that it was found in the 1960's in the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia area. Chancellorsville was a battle between the Confederate forces of Robert E. Lee and Union General Joseph Hooker on April 30th until May 6, 1863. This one is a very attractive one that fits together well.
