Pretty Green Ink Montgomery Issued $500 Confederate Savings Bond CR7
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very nice original Confederate States of America $500.00 savings bond. This one was issued in 1861. This is one of the early series that was issued from the Confederate Capitol while it was located in Montgomery, Alabama. Since the capitol was moved so early, not as many Confederate bonds have the Montgomery issue location on them compared to the Richmond issued bonds. The top portion has the information about the bond and the attractive green overprinting that sets this bond off from most of the other Confederate savings bonds. This style bond doesn't have the engraver's name but they were done by the American Bank Note Company of New Orleans, Louisiana. At the bottom of the bond it has the correct amount of 14 coupons still attached. At certain dates the coupons could be cashed in to receive your interest from the bond. The bond and the coupons are each hand signed and numbered in old brown ink. This is the Confederate bond listed as CR-7 in the bond book by Criswell and as B6 in the Confederate Bond book by Ball. The Confederate Government only issued 3,500 of these bonds with this one being numbered 395. This piece is nice and clear and would look great framed up on your wall. 100% authentic in all regards.
