What a superb non-excavated coat size Civil War era Infantry button. The face of the button has the spread-wing eagle with the "I" shield on its chest. This denotes the infantry branch of service. What makes this one special is that it has the eagle design trimmed out and applied to the face of the button. It is beautifully detailed and is a finely crafted piece. It has some of the original gold wash still present and that gives the button a superb look. The original back and shank are intact. It has the correct Civil War era "SCUYLER H&G NEW-YORK" backmark. These buttons are much tougher to find than most of the backmarks you encounter. It is listed as GI92 in Albert's button book. These buttons are considered by most collector as being made AFTER the Civil War and it is priced accordingly. This is a great looking Civil War 23mm uniform button. Here is a great looking non-dug Civil War era great coat Infantry eagle "I".
