This is a great looking and interesting version Civil War era eagle sword belt buckle. This is the style that is made of the thin stamped brass with the applied keeper on the reverse. The keeper is still nicely intact and in fine shape. If you notice, they made the keeper hook out of a brass circular washer that they soldered in place. The face of the plate has the beautiful spread wing eagle with the wreath around her. Coming from her beak is the ribbon with the motto of the United State "E PLURIBUS UNUM". The buckle has a wonderful untouched look all over as you can see. This buckle would have been inexpensive to make but has nice detail. These are probably Civil War but could be from slightly after the War and it is priced accordingly. With the next model, the 1874 eagle buckle, they get rid of the belt loop on the side of the buckle. This is a great original buckle with a fine look.
