Scarce Dug New Orleans Pattern Confederate Saber Bayonet Adapter
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a tough to find Confederate piece! It is the brass adapter that was put onto the end of the barrel of a Mississippi rifle so they could use a saber bayonet. This brass adapter went over the barrel of the gun and was tightened down on the barrel by a screw. The original screw is present and rusted in place. Then the saber style bayonet went over the barrel and clicked into place over this bayonet adapter or lug. This is the classic style that was made by the famous New Orleans firm of Cook & Brother. It is unmarked but would have matched the New Orleans style saber bayonet. This is a very nice excavated one that has a straight out of the ground look.
